President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has honoured Nigeria’s national women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, with a generous monetary reward following their triumphant performance at the 2025 FIBA Women’s AfroBasket tournament.

D’Tigress clinched their fifth consecutive continental title after defeating Mali 78–64 in the final held on Sunday, August 4, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire a victory that further solidified their dominance in African women’s basketball since 2017.

In recognition of this remarkable achievement, President Tinubu extended a gesture similar to the one previously granted to the Super Falcons. Each player on the D’Tigress squad received $100,000, while members of the coaching crew were awarded $50,000 each. Additionally, all team members players and staff were gifted apartments.

Further cementing their national recognition, the president conferred the prestigious national honour of Officer of the Order of the Niger (OON) on every member of the team, both players and coaches.

The announcement was made by Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima during a special reception held in their honour at the State House Banquet Hall in Abuja on Monday evening.
