2025 is shaping up to be a landmark year for sneaker culture. With Jordan Brand celebrating the 40th anniversary of the Air Jordan 1, the retro lineup is stacked with grails — from the return of the AJ1 High ’85 “Bred” to the much-hyped “Ferrari” 14s. But one standout on this year’s release calendar is the reappearance of a stealth classic: the Air Jordan 4 “Black Cat.”

Originally dropping in 2006, the AJ4 “Black Cat” quickly earned cult status among collectors. Named after one of Michael Jordan’s iconic nicknames, the sneaker drew inspiration from MJ’s panther-like instincts and court dominance. With its all-black nubuck upper, tonal details, and minimal branding, the shoe became a staple for fans looking for a clean, wearable Jordan with an edge.

The first retro arrived in 2020, fueling massive hype and skyrocketing resale prices after pairs vanished on release day. It was a near-carbon copy of the 2006 original, complete with the Jumpman logo on the heel — a move some traditionalists saw as a departure from OG authenticity but didn’t stop the frenzy.

Now, for 2025, Jordan Brand is bringing the “Black Cat” 4 back with an important twist: the heel features Nike Air branding — a detail typically reserved for true OG retros, special collabs, and heritage releases. This change signals a nod to the sneaker purists and adds a fresh layer of collectibility.

Other standout features include glossy black lace locks and midsoles, Light Graphite Jumpman logos on the tongue, and a refined silhouette that better mirrors the 1989 original Air Jordan 4 shape — a design tweak fans have long requested.

With the combination of sneaker history, coveted branding, and a release date designed to spark demand, this drop is already shaping up to be one of the year’s most anticipated.

The 2025 Air Jordan 4 “Black Cat” is slated to drop on Black Friday, November 28th, via SNKRS and select retailers. Grab a first look below and stay tuned to Modern Notoriety for updates.
